Pick-up from Your Accommodation

Mattia will collect you directly from your accommodation in Darwin. We travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned private vehicle, heading east into the Top End wilderness.

Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve – Breakfast & Birdwatching

After around 50 minutes’ drive, we reach Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve, one of the most productive wetlands in the Northern Territory.

Enjoy a continental breakfast with fresh-brewed coffee or tea, while observing:

• Jabiru (black-necked storks)

• Magpie geese

• Jacanas

• Herons, egrets, cormorants

• Occasionally buffalo and saltwater crocodiles around Pandanus Billabong

This peaceful moment sets the perfect mood for the days ahead.

Kakadu National Park – Iconic Welcome & Scenic Stops

We continue toward Kakadu National Park, stopping at the famous Kakadu Welcome Sign for the iconic photo.
Along the way, Mattia will include lesser-known viewpoints and short stops, sharing insights into the land, seasons, and wildlife.

Mamukala Wetlands

We visit Mamukala, a spectacular wetland near the East Alligator River.

Mamukala is renowned for its birdlife, especially during the dry season when thousands of waterbirds gather. You’ll often see:

• Magpie geese

• Egrets and herons

• Ducks and other wetland species

This area also holds deep cultural significance for Aboriginal people, whose connection to country remains strong and alive.

Nourlangie (Burrungkuy) Rock Art & Lookouts

Next, we explore Nourlangie Rock, one of Kakadu’s most important cultural sites.

At the Anbangbang Gallery, you’ll discover:

• Ancient Aboriginal rock art

• Dreamtime stories and ancestral beings

• Paintings spanning thousands of years

Short walks lead to panoramic lookouts overlooking the Arnhem Land escarpment and Kakadu woodlands.

Ubirr – The Best Lookout in Kakadu

We continue to Ubirr, famous for both its rock art and its breathtaking views.

After visiting the rock art galleries, we climb to the top for what many consider the best lookout in Kakadu, with sweeping views across:

• The Nadab Floodplain

• The East Alligator River

• The Arnhem Land plateau

This landscape is one of the most iconic in Australia.

Cahills Crossing – Crocodile Territory

We then stop at Cahills Crossing, a tidal crossing where saltwater crocodiles are often seen gathering in the river.

Mattia will explain:

• Crocodile behaviour

• Tides and river systems

• The cultural importance of the East Alligator River

Overnight in Kakadu

In the late afternoon, we reach your hotel.

Yellow Water Cruise

We start early with the iconic Yellow Water Cruise, a 1.5-hour guided cruise through Yellow Water Billabong and the South Alligator River.

• Lotus and lily-covered wetlands

We stop in Pine Creek, a historic gold-mining town.

Katherine & Hot Springs

We continue south to Katherine, gateway to Nitmiluk National Park.

Enjoy a relaxing swim at the Katherine Hot Springs, a natural thermal oasis surrounded by riverine forest.

Sunrise at Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk)

We begin the day at Katherine Gorge.

Enjoy sunrise either:

Edith Falls (Leliyn)

Next, we visit Edith Falls, one of the Top End’s most beautiful swimming spots.
